Read before rant
OK so I didn't read the articles I just flicked through them. They did highlight the most important runs for the week and it emphasises the importance of rest days. My thighs are really sore so 2 rest days will do me good. If you exert yourself on a hard run should your thighs be sore after? I was expecting calfs, or shins, but thighs? oh well not to worry.

my thighs are sore after my long run - getting up stairs is when they hit hardest!
keep going - we are all in this together!
At the start you do get aches and pains in the oddest of places. The first time i suffered chaffing between the legs is an experience you wont forget. Your body gets used to it after a while and it doesnt seem to be so bad, either that or you brain accepts that your an insane runner type and makes allowances.
Yes, I think it's all supposed to ache - a bit. Muscles repairing themselves and all that. I think that stretching down afterwards might help - I always have done (so I don't know if it helps or not). Also a rest day is pretty much compulsory after a long run I think.
Thanks guys.
To be honest I really haven't got a clue what I'm doing so any/all comments are greatly received.
I'm starting to think that slow and steady, avoiding injury is the way to go.
Hal Higdon's site has some useful material, even if you are not following his training plan. Go into the details for each week (e.g. this) for more.
Oh the joys of sore muscles! Those muscles are saying "we did it! Aren't you proud!" and working on improving and preparing themselves for the next long run knowing it will come and wanting to be better prepared!
Tip ... get some muscle rub from the body shop! Less smelly than deep heat but still good!
Or Try the Wiccy Magoc Muscle massage bar from Lush. That contains cinamon and is lovely are warming!
Keep up the good work though as Beanz says WE WILL DO IT!
